Tour itinerary
Depart for Malaysia’s bustling capital city, Kuala Lumpur!
Fly overnight from London to Malaysia’s capital.
Upon arrival into Kuala Lumpur, you will be met and transferred to the luxurious and elegant Majestic Hotel for 2 nights with breakfast included.
You will then have the whole of day 3 to spend exploring Kuala Lumpur at your own leisure. Visit historic monuments, leafy parks and vibrant street markets before joining a late-afternoon Food & Heritage Tour, sampling local favourites such as Nasi Lemak and Hokkien Mee with a local guide.
Into the jungle – starting at the Rainforest Discovery Centre
This morning you will be taken back to Kuala Lumpur airport, where you will catch your flight to Sandakan. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to MY Nature Resort for 2 nights on a half-board basis. Set on the edge of tropical rainforest and within walking distance of the Rainforest Discovery Centre, it’s the perfect Borneo welcome.
Day 5 will be yours to spend at leisure. Stroll the canopy walkways for bird’s-eye views and, if you wish, you could also add on a visit to Labuk Bay to see proboscis monkeys in the mangroves.
Witness the wildlife conservation efforts at Sepilok’s animal sanctuaries then head to the river
Start your morning with a visit to the world-renowned Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Sun Bear Conservation Centre. You will then set off on a river cruise along the Kinabatangan River, heading to Abai Jungle Lodge where you will stay for 1 night on a full-board basis. This rural setting deep within Sabah offers you with a chance to see an abundance of wildlife right on your doorstep. After settling in this afternoon, set off later for an evening jungle walk.
On day 7 you will continue deeper into the rainforest for 2 nights on a full-board basis at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge, spending the next 2 days enjoying dawn and dusk river safaris and nature trails in search of pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys and rare birdlife.
From wild jungle to the pristine beaches of Gaya Island
Return to Sandakan on day 9 for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. On arrival you will be met for your transfer to the jetty, where you will then take the speedboat to the luxurious Gaya Island Resort for 5 nights with breakfast included. Set within a protected marine park, your stay includes a guided rainforest walk. You can also enjoy snorkelling expedition and mangrove kayak excursion (paid locally).
Spend the next 4 days relaxing on the golden beach or exploring coral reefs and ancient rainforest.
After a final morning on the island on day 14, you will be transferred by boat and car to Kota Kinabalu airport for your flight back to the UK.
