Food
Meals here are sociable and generous, served buffet-style in an open-sided dining area where the sounds of the forest drift in. The staff quietly accommodate all kinds of diets if you let them know in advance, and the atmosphere is relaxed and warm, more lodge than luxury hotel. After dinner, many guests linger on the terrace with a glass of wine or a cool beer, listening to the forest come alive after dark.
Activities
Days at the lodge unfold to the rhythm of the forest. Mornings often begin with guided treks—some short and gentle, others more adventurous, leading up to cliff lookouts or through dense primary jungle. The forest is alive with movement and sound: gibbons calling in the canopy, the rustle of civets, the flash of hornbills overhead. Along riverside paths, guides point out medicinal plants and hidden insects, their knowledge deeply rooted in the landscape. In the afternoon, guests might drift down the Danum River on inner tubes, the current carrying them through shaded bends flanked by ancient trees. The canopy walkway offers a bird’s-eye view of the forest, with suspended bridges stretching between platforms high above the ground. As night falls, torch-lit walks and 4×4 safaris reveal the forest’s nocturnal life—slow loris, leopard cats, glowing fungi.
