Unforgettable Sundowners

Whether on the Rufiji’s banks or the shores of Zanzibar, every evening brings a golden-hour moment you’ll never forget.

Well, we are back to reality after a fabulous trip to Tanzania – very much a holiday of a lifetime and one we will never forget.

Glenn Hanson, Tanzania

We were keen to see as many species of bird as possible and the guides were expecting this and each had amazing knowledge of where to find them. Not just that, but they made sure we also got to see many of the rest of the wildlife of the region - everything from amazing numbers of Impala, Giraffe, Elephant, Zebra, lions, Cheetah and Leopard, and even Wild Dog that we had hoped to see but doubted we would be so lucky!

Peter Haine, Tanzania

We had an amazing time. Everything was brilliant (even the baboon leaving a gift on the bed in the Serengeti!). I think Nick’s highlight was the lion cubs. I loved all the safari, but seeing the turtles hatch in Pangani was truly awesome. All the accommodation was exactly what we had hoped for. I hadn’t realised we would have a tent on our first night as well.

Jacqui Davids, Tanzania

Thank you for arranging a fantastic holiday. We both really enjoyed ourselves and felt totally refreshed upon our return. The game viewing was spectacular, we were so lucky to see the pantheon of game on offer including hyena, wild dog and leopard, as well as a different pride of lion on each day we went out.

Hazel Bellfield, Tanzania

We had a wonderful time away, beautiful setting and such great staff. Especially Pongwe – again staff, food, location fantastic!

Tour itinerary

Days 1 & 2 :

Fly from the UK to Dar es Salaam and begin your adventure with a light aircraft flight to Nyere (Selous)

Fly overnight from the UK to Dar es Salaam.

On arrival in Dar es Salaam, board your light aircraft to Nyerere National Park (Selous), a flight of around 45 minutes offering incredible views over coastal plains and river channels. You’ll be met by your guide for a game drive transfer to Selous Kulinda Camp, your base for the next four nights.

Nestled along the Rufiji River, Selous Kulinda Camp offers 12 elegant tented suites with private verandas and en suite bathrooms. Wooden decks overlook the river where hippos grunt and elephants wander to drink, and the camp’s thatched lounge, bar, and pool create a relaxed safari atmosphere.

Settle in and enjoy lunch with a view before heading out on your first evening river safari, gliding silently past pods of hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife as the sun dips low. Dinner is served under the stars, accompanied by the sounds of the bush.

Days 3-5:

Three days packed with exciting game drives in Selous - Look out for the Big 5!

Over the next three full days, you’ll settle into the timeless rhythm of safari life.

Mornings begin with coffee and biscuits before heading out at dawn for a game drive or guided bush walk. This is the best time to spot big cats and other predators on the move, and to see the savannah bathed in soft light. Your guide will share insights on animal behaviour and the ecosystem’s delicate balance.

Midday is for rest and relaxation — return to camp for a hearty breakfast and perhaps a dip in the pool or time with a book on your deck while elephants splash in the river below.

Afternoons bring new perspectives on a boat safari or another game drive. Drift down the Rufiji as kingfishers dart across the water, or explore the floodplains where buffalo and impala graze. Each safari is different — that’s the beauty of Nyerere’s wilderness.

Evenings are a highlight: sunset drinks on the riverbank followed by dinner in the flicker of lantern light and stories shared around the firepit.

Day 6:

From Safari to Sea

After one final morning game drive, enjoy breakfast overlooking the river before transferring by light aircraft to Zanzibar (via Dar es Salaam). On arrival, a private driver will take you north-east to Zanzibar Pearl, your beach home for the next five nights on a half-board basis.

Nestled among palms on Matemwe Beach, Zanzibar Pearl blends island style with barefoot luxury. Whitewashed bungalows and thatched roofs open onto private verandas shaded by palms, with airy interiors and sea views that invite instant relaxation.

The beachfront restaurant and bar serve freshly caught seafood and tropical flavours, while the infinity pool and open-air spa make this an idyllic place to unwind. Mornings begin with breakfast by the water as fishing boats return to shore, and evenings end with sundowners and the sound of the waves.

Safari chairs set up for sundowners beside the Rufiji River in Nyerere National Park, formerly Selous Game Reserve.
Days 7-10:

Barefoot Bliss on Zanzibar

Your days here are yours to design.

Spend long mornings wandering along the beach or snorkelling in the shallows. The Mnemba Atoll, just offshore, offers world-class diving and snorkelling with vibrant coral gardens, turtles, and tropical fish.

In the afternoons, unwind by the pool or indulge in a beachside massage beneath the palms. For a taste of culture, join a spice tour to experience the island’s aromatic legacy.

As the sun sets, toast the end of another day with a cocktail at the beach bar or during a sunset dhow cruise. Evenings are relaxed and romantic, with dinners served al fresco under a canopy of stars.

Days 11-12:

Explore Stone Town & Journey Home

After breakfast overlooking the ocean, say farewell to the beach and transfer south to Stone Town, Zanzibar’s atmospheric capital. Spend a few leisurely hours wandering its narrow, coral-stone alleys — a fascinating blend of Swahili, Arab and European influences.

Visit the lively Forodhani Gardens and the old House of Wonders, browse colourful spice stalls, or stop at a café terrace for a final fresh coconut juice as the call to prayer drifts across the rooftops.

In the afternoon, transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your evening flight home — taking with you memories of wild safaris, turquoise seas, and the timeless rhythm of Tanzania.

Arrive back in the UK the following day.
