The main, unique, attraction of the area is the opportunity to enjoy some of the best land and boat based whale watching holidays in the world! From July through to November the greatest marine mammal show on earth is accessible to all as herds of Southern Right, Humpback and Bryde’s whales migrate around the Cape of Good Hope to mate and birth their young.  They can be seen as close as 20 meters from the shores of Hermanus and Gansbaai breaching, spraying, groaning and lob-tailing.

As well as spectacular marine life, the area is also uniquely laced with coastal fynbos, stone-age archeological caves and birds. The coast, inland lagoon and small yet bustling fishing town of Hermanus offer plenty of activties from kayaking amongst a backdrop of towering mountains to quad-biking through empty sand dunes to shark cage diving in the deep blue ocean.  Or take an 8 km beach walk where you may encounter sleeping seals that scurry off to the ocean when you wake them.
