A teardrop at the foot of India, Sri Lanka has a brilliant variety of places to visit, usually set amongst breath-taking scenery. Sri Lanka is one of the best places in Asia to see wildlife. Head to Minneriya or Uda Walawe for elephants or to the lowland scrub of Yala to add-in some leopard and sloth bear sightings. For birdlife, head to the lush rainforest of Sinharaja. For history, the Cultural Triangle, with its magnificent ancient cities, showcases some of Sri Lanka’s two thousand years of recorded history. For picture-perfect scenery, the misty hills of the tea plantations can be slowly admired by train or foot. There are temples here, there and everywhere to give an insight into Buddhism. And the coast is fringed with idyllic paradise beaches, each area having a different climate so that there is alway somewhere with perfect weather. Your only problem will be working out how to fit it all in to your itinerary. But that’s what we’re for …
“We tried to infuse some humor in our style & a laid back feel so that guests feel at home from the moment they step into our hotel. We believe our guests are travellers. They come seeking an experience, not just a destination & hopefully we provide that.”
“With creating Niyagama House a dream came true for us and we are delighted about sharing this dream with our guests! Here we can offer you our expertise in the field of vacation, yoga and hospitality in a perfect mix. And we happily look forward to seeing you here!”
“Our aim is to give you the feeling you are staying in a friend’s house and not a hotel. We have a library, a dining pavilion, a swimming pool, arbours and flower gardens, so guests can relax and please themselves around the house and grounds. Or even take the dogs out for a walk.”
Our trips all worked incredibly well – we were the first up Sigiriya in the morning – thus avoiding the heat, something you had recommended. We had a great train journey, saw a bear, leopard and about 20 elephants on the safari (definitely needed a whole day) in addition to visiting a large numbers of stupas, temples, a herbal centre, tea plantation, botanical garden etc.
Brilliant work creating our itinerary. Thoroughly enjoyable and varied. Super country and people. Would definitely return to Sri Lanka.
We had 12 nights in Sri Lanka which we organised through Sundowner – it was excellent! Sundowner added real value with their recommendations on the travel and in particular their recommended accommodation. We were nervous about having our own local driver but in fact he was very good and it suited us as independent travellers who like to set our own agenda.
A gem of a country to visit with great charm and variety enhanced by a fantastic driver/guide. We loved every part of the trip for different reasons since the itinerary combined culture, history, wildlife and beach. Thank you for your recommendations and brilliant organisation.

“I find that when travelling, I take on so many more challenges and do things I would never normally do, it makes me a bolder and braver person. I love making memories I will always treasure”
“I love the freedom that travel brings, learning about the area, spending time with local people and exploring completely new places.”
“Going away feeds my soul, I love finding places that make me want to stop for a moment and breathe it all in. It’s about creating memories that stand out in my mind, an escape from routine.”
“I love to travel so I can turn my imagination into reality, instead of thinking about how places might be, I want to see them as they truly are.”
