safari under canvas in prime leopard country, picnics in the tea plantations and a private beach hideaway on the beaches of Galle, these are just some of the highlights in this romantic 13 night private tour, staying in a lovely collection of intimate lodges as you are transported through the ancient kingdoms, Kandy, Yala National Park and the stunning south coast.
Day 1: UK to Colombo
Fly overnight from the UK to Colombo.
Day 2: Kaleliya (near Colombo)
On arrival you will be met by your driver/guide and transferred in your private vehicle 45mins to the village of Kaleliya to spend 1 night at Casa Heliconia, an intimate hideaway with only 2 guest pavilions, great service, a lovely pool and delicious meals served on your private terrace – what a start!
Day 3: Kaleliya to Cultural Triangle
Today your adventure really starts as you head into the Cultural Triangle region of the country to explore the incredible Dambulla Cave Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest temple cave complex in Sri Lanka. Remember, this is just a starting point idea to give you a flavour of what we can do. All our honeymoons are uniquely designed for each couple. Contact us on 01273 923100 to start designing yours.
You will then continue towards Sigiriya to spend 2 nights at Vil Uyana, a beautiful eco hotel with a selection of luxurious “dwellings” spread out amongst its own nature reserve with views of Sigiriya Rock – we particularly love the stylish sundowner lounge and tucking into a delicious Sri Lankan curry on the deck of your private dwelling!
Day 4: Cultural Triangle
This morning you will be collected by your guide and driven to the iconic Rock Fortress of Sigiriya to enjoy a guided tour of this fascinating UNESCO complex and a hike to the top to enjoy the stunning scenery. You will then return to Vil Uyana for a well-earned relax by the pool.
Day 5: Cultural Triangle to Kandy
This morning you will be driven south to the scenic city of Kandy, heading to the UNESCO Temple of the Tooth and Royal Palace where you will enjoy a guided tour and walk by Kandy Lake. Want to stay an extra day or two in the Cultural Triangle & see Polonnaruwa & Anuradhapura? Contact us on 01273 923100 to design a honeymoon tailored to you or to get more ideas.
With its central location you will spend 1 night at The Secret Kandy a former governor’s residence and now a beautiful 5 room boutique guesthouse offering first class service and delicious food.
Day 6: Kandy to Tea Country
Today will be driven 7km south of Kandy to Station where you will board the train south through the stunning tea plantations and many local villages to Hatton where you will spend 2 nights at Mandira Dickoya Bungalow, a former planters residence once owned by the Scottish Ceylon Tea Company and now a charming colonial guest lodge with stunning views over the surrounding plantations.
Day 7: Tea Country
This beautiful area is all about taking in the beautiful surroundings on tea tours, plantation hikes and mountain bike rides, and then enjoying delicious meals on the veranda. Top tip – Mandira has 2 other bungalows in the area and you can enjoy a full day trek with lunch at one and high tea at the other!
Days 8: Tea Country to Yala National Park
An incredible drive today will take in the Ella Gap with stunning views of the southern plains (definitely a stop for a few photos!) as you head down to Yala National Park to spend 2 nights under canvas at Wild Trails, a tented safari camp hidden away in the bush with only 4 large en-suite tents, excellent staff and an authentic safari atmosphere.
Enjoy an afternoon jeep safari in the park – prime leopard country.
Day 9: Yala National Park
Full day jeep safari in Yala National Park. Yala is the most visited park in Sri Lanka and boasting the highest concentration of leopard in the world it’s no surprise.
Day 10: Yala to Thalpe Beach
This morning you will head to Thalpe Beach on the southwest coast to end your honeymoon with 4 nights relaxing at Kikili Beach, a super laid back owner-run beach villa which is taken on a private basis, has incredible house staff to prepare delicious meals, a lovely private pool and it even has its own rum shack bar! Definitely a Sundowner favourite.
Day 11 to 13: Thalpe Beach
Three full days to relax and explore the beaches of Galle. You probably will not want to leave your romantic hideaway but Galle Fort is only a short tuk-tuk ride away and the nearby beaches of Unawatuna and Wijaya have some great beach restaurants and a selection of beach activities. Want to spend more days on the beach? Call us on 01273 923100 and let’s design a honeymoon tailored to you and your budget.
