bustling markets of Colombo, the cave temples of Dambulla, the stunning rock fortress of Sigiriya and a train ride though the lush tea plantations of Sri Lanka’s hill country, these are just some of the highlights in this private 10 day Sri Lanka adventure that takes in the capital, four UNESCO World Heritage sites, beautiful landscapes and ends within the walls of Galle Fort on the stunning south west coast.
Day 1: UK to Colombo
Fly overnight from the UK to Colombo.
Day 2: Colombo
On arrival you will be met by your driver/guide and transferred in your private vehicle into the bustling capital where you will spend 1 night at the elegant Havelock Place, a centrally located 6 room boutique guest-house which is Sri Lankan owner-run, full of character and offers delicious home cooking!
This afternoon you have the option to explore Colombo with your guide. There is plenty to see in the city and we highly recommend a walking tour of the Fort to soak up the fascinating architecture and bustling Pettah Market followed by a sundowner at the Galle Face Hotel!
Days 3: Cultural Triangle
Today your adventure really starts as you head into the Cultural Triangle region of the country, stopping en-route at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage to enjoy the famous elephant river bathing. You will then continue to the incredible Dambulla Cave Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest temple cave complex in Sri Lanka. After a fantastic day you will head to Arika Villa to spend 2 nights, a peaceful tropical retreat hidden away in the forest with 8 huge rooms, a lovely pool, attentive staff and some great food.
Day 4: Cultural Triangle
This morning you will be collected by your guide and driven to the iconic Rock Fortress of Sigiriya. Definitely a great opportunity to burn off that lovely breakfast at Arika you will enjoy a guided tour of this fascinating UNESCO complex and a hike to the top to enjoy the stunning scenery.

Day 5: Cultural Triangle to Kandy
This morning you will be driven south to the scenic city of Kandy, heading to the UNESCO Temple of the Tooth and Royal Palace where you will enjoy a guided tour and walk by Kandy Lake. You will then continue to Villa Rosa to spend 2 nights at this owner-run gem with its super friendly service, great views and delicious home cooked food.
Day 6: Kandy
This morning your guide will collect you for a tour of Kandy Royal Botanical Gardens. You will then return to Villa Rosa for a relaxing afternoon or you can explore Kandy under your steam and simply get a tuk-tuk back to the house.
Day 7: Kandy to Tea Country
Today will be driven 7km south of Kandy to Station where you will board the train south through the stunning tea plantations and many local villages to the hill station of Nuwara Eliya where you will spend 2 nights at Ferncliff House, a charming 1800s bungalow with a beautiful setting and excellent staff, making it a firm Sundowner favourite.
Day 8: Tea Country
Full day to explore this beautiful region with your guide and vehicle at your disposal. No trip is complete to this region without a visit to a tea factory and if you are feeling active we definitely recommend a nature hike in the Horton Plains National Park to the “Worlds End”!
Days 9: Tea Country to Galle Fort
A long but beautiful drive today will take you from the heart of the Tea Country to the stunning southwest coast where you will end your adventure with 2 nights staying within the walls of the UNESCO Galle Fort at Mango House, a stylish boutique guesthouse with bags of character and a great location in the heart of the fort.
Day 10: Galle
This morning you will be collected on foot by your guide for morning walk tour of Galle Fort. You will then be free to explore narrow streets with a great selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. Alternatively you can hop in a tuk-tuk and head to one of the many beautiful beaches of Galle – ask us for some suggestions. Or add-on a few nights at the beach. Bentota Beach is an hour away and perfect for a relaxing end to your holiday.
Day 11: Colombo to UK
Following a final breakfast in the fort you will be transferred north to Colombo Airport for your flight back to the UK.
