Day 1: Temples, Old Quarter & Street Food

My journey began at the Temple of Literature, an oasis of calm showcasing Vietnam’s scholarly past. Wandering through the rest of the Old Quarter, I explored ancient shop houses selling everything from silk to spices. I couldn’t resist sampling the city’s famous street food including crispy banh mi, steaming bowls of pho, and sweet coconut coffee. As the sun set, I took a cyclo ride through the lantern-lit streets before ending my night at a rooftop bar, overlooking the vibrant chaos below.

Day 2: Lakes, Markets & Cultural Wonders

I rose early for a peaceful stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake, watching locals practise tai chi. Next, a visit to the bustling Dong Xuan Market was a feast for the senses, with endless stalls offering delicious street food and unique souvenirs. I then delved into Vietnam’s war history at Hoa Lo Prison before unwinding at a hidden speakeasy. As my time in Hanoi came to an end, I watched the sunset over West Lake, a perfect farewell to this mesmerising city.
