This was the big trip we’d been talking about for years, and it more than lived up to expectations. The balance was spot on – James helped us pace it so we had time in Cusco to acclimatise before the Inca Trail, and then a few gentler days around Lake Titicaca before flying to the Galápagos. Having the right hotels in the right places made such a difference, and the local guides really brought everything to life.

Emily Ashworth, Peru & Galapagos

What an adventure! We’ll never forget the salt flats in Bolivia, staying in a hotel made of salt was such a fun experience, then crossing into Peru for Lake Titicaca and Cusco before ending in the Galápagos. The way the trip was put together worked really well, and we could tell how much thought had gone into every detail.

David & Susan Ormsby, Bolivia & Peru & Galapagos

We planned a trip to Peru with Sundowner Holidays and it was amazing. Visiting Lima, Cusco, and Machu Picchu gave us a great mix of culture, history, and adventure. Hiking the Inca Trail together and exploring the Sacred Valley were definite highlights. Sundowner helped put together an itinerary that suited all four of us perfectly, and we loved every part of it.

Weather in Peru

Costa Rica has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: a wet (green) season and a dry season. The weather varies depending on the region, with coastal areas being warm and humid, while the central highlands enjoy cooler temperatures. Whether you’re exploring the cloud forests, relaxing on the Pacific coast, or spotting wildlife in national parks, understanding Costa Rica’s weather will help you plan your ideal trip.

The Wet Season (November–March): Lush and Green
The wet season in Peru brings higher rainfall, particularly in the Andean and Amazon regions, with temperatures ranging from 15–28°C (59–82°F). The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu can experience heavy rains, making trekking conditions challenging, but the landscape becomes lush and vibrant, offering stunning views. The Amazon basin sees more consistent rainfall, making the rainforest dense and teeming with wildlife. Although this season is considered off-peak for trekking, it’s an ideal time to visit the rainforest for its rich biodiversity and fewer tourists.

The Dry Season (April–October): Ideal for Trekking and Exploring
The dry season is the best time to visit Peru, particularly for hiking and exploring archaeological sites. Temperatures are cooler, ranging from 10–20°C (50–68°F) in the highlands, but the days are sunny and dry, with little to no rainfall. This is the peak season for visiting Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, with clear skies offering fantastic views of the mountains and ancient ruins. Coastal areas, like Lima, experience mild temperatures (15–20°C / 59–68°F), making it an excellent time for sightseeing and exploring the vibrant culture. Be aware that this is also the busiest time of year, so it’s best to book tours and accommodations in advance.
