Day 1: UK to Kuching
Fly from London to Kuching, via Kuala Lumpur.
Day 2: Kuching
On your arrival, you will be met and transferred to the Ranee Boutique hotel where you’ll be staying for 3 nights. Located in the heart of Kuching’s picturesque Old Town, this romantic boutique hotel has been stylishly rebuilt from two traditional 19th century shophouses with individually styled suites to reflect Sarawak’s rich colonial heritage. You are perfectly located to head out and explore Kuching this afternoon. Want to start with some time in Kuala Lumpur – ask us to add this on – call 01273 923100.
Day 3: Kuching
This morning you will head on a private tour to the Semenggoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre for a chance to see these rare and majestic creatures in their natural habitat. In the afternoon you will have a private tour of a longhouse village – visiting a traditional bamboo longhouse, home to dozens of local families.
Day 4: Bako National Park
Today you will head on a private tour of Bako National Park by boat and foot. It is one of the smallest national parks in Sarawak, yet one of the most interesting, as it contains almost every type of vegetation found in Borneo as well as proboscis monkeys, silvered langurs (leaf monkeys), long tailed macaque monkeys, wild boar, flying squirrels and monitor lizards. Want to spend the night in Bako NP and explore a little more? Or perhaps add in some hiking and a homestay? Ask us to tailor this itinerary to you.
Day 5: Kuching to Gaya Island
Today you will fly to Kota Kinabalu where you will be transferred to the jetty for your boat to the gorgeous Gaya Island where you spend 4 nights at Gaya Island Resort with breakfast included. Set within a marine park with a golden beach and backed by lush rainforest, Gaya Island Resort is the perfect luxurious beach retreat to kick-back after your tour of Borneo.
Days 6-8: Gaya Island
Three full days to enjoy this beautiful beach, relax by the pool and enjoy the surrounding area. With a wealth of coral reefs for diving, indigenous flora and fauna for guided nature walks, and plenty of water sports and an award-winning spa you will have an amazing couple of days. Want more time on the beach or interested in a different beach option – contact us for your own personalised plan.
Day 9: Gaya Island to Sepilok
Today you will fly to Sandakan where you will be transferred to Sepilok to stay for 1 night at MY Nature Resort. Set on the edge of the tropical rainforest, MY Nature’s traditional chalets each have a large terrace overlooking the jungle. There is a good sized pool as well as a 300 metre walkway, where you are free to wander and discover the sights of the jungle. This afternoon, head to the Rainforest Discovery Centre visiting the canopy towers connected by walkways to give you a bird’s-eye view of the rooftops of the trees. We also recommend a night walk to spot some of the nocturnal wildlife. Want to head to the beach at the end instead of the jungle? Call 01273 923100.
Day 10: Sepilok to Kinabatangan
This morning you will visit the world’s largest orangutan rehabilitation centre at Sepilok as well as the Sun Bear Conservation Centre. You will then cruise to Sabah’s mighty Kinabatangan River to Abai Jungle Lodge where you will be staying for 1 night with all meals included. Abai Jungle Lodge provides a rustic, rural setting, deep within the interior of Sabah with an abundance of wildlife to be found right on your doorstep. In the afternoon you will enjoy a guided river safari in search of pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys, orangutans and more! And in the evening you’ll head out for a jungle at night guided tour for more wildlife tracking.
Days 11-12: Kinabatangan
Wake up early for an unmissable morning cruise on the Kinabatangan River. Watch the jungle slowly waking up in the mist and enjoy the wildlife search. Later today you will head further into the jungle to stay at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge for 2 nights with all meals included. This is a wonderful, laid back base from which to explore the Kinabatangan River and the surrounding nature trails. You will spend the next two days enjoying river safari cruises to track wildlife in the mornings and afternoons.
Day 13: Kinabatangan to the UK
Today you will be transferred back to Sandakan to check-in for your return flights to the UK.
