"I’ve canoed the Lower Zambezi, wild camped in the Okavango Delta, and driven from the UK to Cape Town. I love getting under the skin of a place and its landscapes, wildlife, and culture."

Sundowner felt like true partners in our big holiday. Lucy spent time with me, chatting about our family and our likes and dislikes, before coming up with an itinerary which barely needed tweaking. Everything went smoothly: tickets, payments, use of the Travel App, etc. Sundowner removed the entire mental load from the holiday.
And then the holiday was fabulous. We were met at the airport and steered through, met our fabulous driver who looked after our every need, and just stayed in the best places. The balance of ‘doing’ and ‘resting’ was great. I will always use Sundowner now for holidays outside Europe and will recommend them to everyone.

The Thornley Family, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a truly amazing country. The people are so friendly, the food is delicious. We enjoyed all the experiences we had.

Angie Newman, Sri Lanka

From the most amazing food and walking tour in Galle Fort, to glamping and safari in Yala, to a treetop jungle hideaway, waterfall swimming and train through the tea hills in Ella, to climbing Monkey Mountain in Gal Oya, to a Sri Lankan cookery class, private cinema for 2 under the stars and helping local fishermen bring in their catch at a pristine beach on the east coast, we can honestly say we truly experienced Sri Lanka and completely fell in love with it.

Victoria, Sri Lanka

Our experience with Lucy and the Sundowner team in Sri Lanka was nothing short of exceptional. Their meticulous attention to detail ensured that every aspect of our trip catered perfectly to our family's needs, making our visit truly memorable.

Sobana, Sri Lanka

We have just returned from a holiday in Sri Lanka. It was the best holiday that we have ever had… The itinerary was well thought out and we had a good mixture of culture, wildlife and experience of the lovely country and people. I congratulate Sundowners and their in country partners who arranged a superb holiday.

Clive Newell, Sri Lanka

Weather in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate influenced by two monsoon seasons, making it a year-round destination with different regions experiencing dry weather at different times. Whether you’re exploring the cultural wonders of the central highlands, spotting wildlife in Yala National Park, or relaxing on golden beaches, understanding Sri Lanka’s weather will help you plan the perfect trip.

The Wet Season (Varies by Region): Rainy but Scenic
Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons. The southwest monsoon (May–September) affects Colombo, Galle, and the southwest beaches, bringing heavy rain and rough seas. The northeast monsoon (November–February) impacts Trincomalee and the east coast, making the sea rougher and limiting beach activities. However, temperatures remain warm (25–32°C / 77–90°F), and this is a fantastic time to explore lush landscapes, tea plantations, and waterfalls in the central highlands.

The Dry Season (Varies by Region): Best for Travel
The southwest coast (Galle, Mirissa, Bentota) and central areas (Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella) experience dry weather from December to April, making this the best time for cultural tours, hiking, and beach relaxation. Meanwhile, the east coast (Arugam Bay, Trincomalee, Pasikudah) enjoys its dry season from May to September, ideal for surfing and snorkelling. With its varied climate, Sri Lanka offers great travel opportunities all year, depending on which region you choose to visit.
