The summer monsoon usually occurs from June until September with high humidity and thunderstorms. However, as Rajasthan is a desert region, it is still an ok time to visit although wbear in mind that the temperature can get unbearably high, up to 40°C. Whilst there is a monsson in the rest of the country, the passes thaw out in the Himalayas and Ladakh and the days are clear and sunny. It’s the best time to visit this area.
The monsoon clears from north to south with November, February and March being the best months to visit across all regions of the country. December and January can be a little cooler in the north and much cooler in Central India but are still popular months to visit.
Tiger and elephant watching is best during the hottest, driest months, April, May and June, as tigers come out in search of water. March is generally perfect for hiking holidays in India. Houseboats don’t tend to be available during the high monsoon months of July and August.

Our tour of Kerala was perfect in every way, we decided to go with a private driver who stayed with us for the whole trip – we found this a more relaxed way to travel. We were so impressed with Periplus, efficient in every way, our driver, Sunil, was very polite, always on time and in many ways added to our holiday.
We travelled in India for 21 days and every guest house we were booked in was excellent. The cars which picked us up were nice and clean and drivers and guides were good. The Indian counter parts Periplus could not do enough and at every stage we were met with their representative who made double sure that all our needs were met. Highly satisfied.
Our first trip to India and it was perfect. Beautifully organised by you – well done. The Taj Mahal was the main reason for our visit and then to see as much as India as possible. The whole trip was more than expected. My husband who was not keen, loved it.
James was flexible, patient and responsive. The trip was wonderful – Ramathra Fort and the visit to the local village was a brilliant experience – in fact the whole trip exceeded our expectations on every level.

“I love to travel so I can turn my imagination into reality, instead of thinking about how places might be, I want to see them as they truly are.”
