Iharana Bush Camp is magnificently set in the middle of nature, looking up at the Tsingy limestone escarpment beside a small natural lake teeming with birds. It’s a bumpy ride down a dirt track to get to this beautiful spot but that’s what you’d expect from a camp that is all about getting into the heart of your environment. There are sixteen cabanas, inspired by traditional Malagasy houses, and designed from natural resources to be in total harmony with the surroundings.

Each thatched cabana is deceptively simple looking yet comes with an en-suite with very hot solar-heated water and big fluffy towels. The walls are made of latticed wood and roots, only partially covered, to allow the breeze to come in and allowing you to hear the nature all around you as you lie in bed each night. The doors don’t lock and the only plugs are in the office. Interpret this as there being no need for locks and as an escape from technology and you will love it here.

The large open dining area is created from wood and thatch with great views across the lake – a perfect spot to relax in. Or head to the library or the deck or beside the pool. Every spot has a view to drink in or enjoy a sundowner over. The home-made rum – a speciality of Madagascar –is a must. Breakfast, such as home-made croissants and jam, and dinner are included in your stay. This is delicious simple food, locally sourced and well prepared. Lunch is your choice. Cycle with a picnic to the Tsingy. Snack next to the pool. Or have a barbeque.
