This is island paradise. A small guesthouse with a fantastic host set amongst lush green nature and steps from the lapping Indian Ocean. Lounge all day at the guesthouse, being peered at by lemurs, dipping into the sea for the odd bit of excellent snorkeling. Or take a trip to the local village, find a deserted beach or hike through jungle to the top of the island. 293 on Komba Guest House is located on the small island of Nosy Komba, approximately 20 minutes from Nosy Be, off the mainland of Madagascar.  293 on Komba was one of the first guesthouses to be built on Komba, and has a prime position nestled amongst the fruit trees, only a few steps from the beach – leave your shoes at the door! You can snorkel from the beach, spot lemurs, chameleons, frogs and bright green geckos without leaving the guesthouse or take a short walk to the village of Ampangorina for souvenirs, restaurants or a bit of a wander.

Marcine is actively involved in all aspects of 293 on Komba and her passion for the area and her desire for you to perfectly enjoy your visit to Madagascar shine through for the entire visit. She puts effort into getting to know you and into making you feel comfortable so that it feels more like you’re staying with a good family friend. Her five local staff are also great and have a good sense of humour making your stay utterly relaxed.

293 on Komba Guest House has three en-suite bedrooms and one stand alone en-suite room away from the main house, all set on a beautiful bay, where you wake up to the sound of the sea lapping. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Hot water is available for showers and the beds in the rooms have a mini electric fan inside the roof of the mosquito net – a really great innovation! Electricity is available in small quantities during the day through solar power which is great for charging small things like cameras.

There is a main open area for eating, drinking, and relaxing which looks out over the beach. On top of this, whether you want to lounge in the full sun, to drink coffee and play Scrabble in partial shade or cool off inside, there are endless places to relax or soak up the view. Our favourite is an outside four-post double bed that is suspended by chains so that it can rock side to side – the ultimate napping spot overlooking the beach.

Stays at 293 on komba include breakfast and dinner cooked by Marcine who is a fantastic cook. Menu options change daily depending on the availability of local produce and fresh seafood but could include fresh fish, prawns, Zebu (a local cattle) or chicken accompanied by the delicious Malagasy rice or fresh vegetables and salads.
