Sundowner, arranged the most wonderful itinerary to Borneo and Penang. Our 3-day trip on the river in Borneo was just magical, seeing so many different animals, insects and birds. Our trip to Penang was so interesting with all the culture that Penang has to offer. It was a complicated itinerary but the whole trip was just seamless. Accommodation was great. A brilliant, brilliant holiday and I cannot recommend Sundowner highly enough.

We booked a Malaysian holiday for a special birthday and right from the start, Hannah listened to our requirements and put together a fantastic itinerary for us of 4 nights in Kuala Lumpur, 5 nights in Borneo wildlife watching and 4 nights in Gaya Island, this was a truly fantastic holiday … I would give 6 stars if I could!

Weather in Malaysia

Malaysia has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round and two distinct monsoon seasons affecting different regions at different times. Whether you’re exploring the modern skyline of Kuala Lumpur, trekking through the jungles of Borneo, or relaxing on the white-sand beaches of Langkawi, understanding Malaysia’s weather will help you plan the perfect trip.

The Wet Season (Varies by Region): Rainy but Lush
Malaysia’s monsoon seasons differ by region. The east coast (Tioman, Perhentian Islands, and Redang) experiences heavy rainfall from November to February, with some resorts closing during this period. The west coast (Langkawi, Penang, and Pangkor) sees lighter showers from April to October, but it remains a good time to visit. Despite the rain, temperatures stay warm (25–32°C / 77–90°F), and the lush landscapes make this an excellent time for nature lovers and rainforest treks.

The Dry Season (Varies by Region): Best for Outdoor Adventures
The east coast enjoys sunny, dry weather from March to October, making it the best time for beach holidays and diving. The west coast’s driest period runs from November to March, with little rain and perfect conditions for sightseeing and island hopping. Kuala Lumpur and the Cameron Highlands remain warm year-round, but the highlands offer a cooler escape (15–25°C / 59–77°F). With Malaysia’s weather varying by location, it’s always possible to find a great spot to explore, no matter the season.
