The Monsoon Season (June–September): Lush and Refreshing
The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall across most of the country, with temperatures ranging from 25–35°C (77–95°F). The landscape becomes lush and green, making it a beautiful time to visit places like Kerala, where the backwaters are at their fullest. While some areas, such as the Himalayas and Rajasthan, receive less rain, the downpours can disrupt travel in regions prone to flooding. However, this is a fantastic time to experience India’s vibrant festivals, like the colourful Teej and Onam celebrations.

The Dry Season (October–March): Ideal for Travel
This is the best time to visit most of India, with cooler temperatures (10–30°C / 50–86°F) and little rainfall. Northern destinations like Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra enjoy pleasant weather, perfect for sightseeing. The southern beaches of Goa and Kerala are also at their best, with warm, sunny days. December and January can be chilly in northern regions, especially in the mountains, while March sees the arrival of Holi, the famous festival of colours. With peak tourist crowds, it’s best to book accommodations and train tickets in advance.

The Hot Season (April–May): Best for Hill Stations
Temperatures soar during the summer months, reaching 35–45°C (95–113°F) in many parts of the country. While cities like Delhi and Varanasi can be extremely hot, this is the best time to visit India’s hill stations, such as Shimla, Darjeeling, and Ooty, where the weather remains cool and pleasant. Wildlife safaris in national parks like Ranthambore and Bandhavgarh are also excellent during this time, as animals gather around water sources, increasing your chances of spotting tigers and other wildlife.
