The juxtaposition of urban Kuala Lumpur with wild Borneo was brilliant … the animals and of course the Orangutans were a delight and all capped off with a luxury stay on Gaya Island …. Just perfect!

Margaret Styles, Borneo

Well, what an amazing country Borneo is, we absolutely loved it and probably still haven't come down to earth since we have been home.

Helen Lewis, Borneo

The trip was so well organised. The lodges we stayed in were great. Seeing the wildlife so close was amazing. I would thoroughly recommend seeing Borneo with Sundowner Holidays, our first trip with them and thought it was exceptional. Trip of a lifetime.

Sheila Regula, Borneo

We booked a Malaysian holiday for a special birthday and right from the start, Hannah listened to our requirements and put together a fantastic itinerary for us of 4 nights in Kuala Lumpur, 5 nights in Borneo wildlife watching and 4 nights in Gaya Island, this was a truly fantastic holiday … I would give 6 stars if I could!

Neil and Donna, Malaysia

One of the best things about our time in Borneo was the people. Everyone was so friendly and kind to us. It was the most perfect honeymoon!

Jenny Casswell, Borneo

I cannot thank Sundowner enough for all their help, assistance and knowledge when we were booking this trip. We are actively recommending them to all our like-minded travel friends, and we will speak again when we are ready for our next adventure.

Weather in Borneo

Borneo’s climate is characterised by high temperatures and significant rainfall throughout the year, typical of its equatorial location. The island maintains average daily temperatures of 30°C, with annual rainfall between 2,000 and 4,000 millimetres.

The Wet Season (November–March): Lush and Rainy
Borneo’s wet season brings heavy rainfall, especially from December to February, with temperatures around 25–32°C (77–90°F). The rainfall is usually heavy but short, often occurring in the afternoon or evening. The wet season makes the island incredibly lush and vibrant, ideal for rainforest trekking and waterfall exploration. However, rainfall can disrupt travel in more remote areas, and the seas may become rougher, affecting boat travel to islands like Sipadan. Despite the rain, this is also the best time for wildlife watching, as the lush landscapes offer excellent opportunities to spot Borneo’s unique fauna.

The Dry Season (April–October): Perfect for Outdoor Adventures
The dry season, from April to October, offers more consistent sunny weather, with less rainfall and lower humidity. Temperatures range from 24–31°C (75–88°F), making it ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking in the rainforests, climbing Mount Kinabalu, or exploring the many national parks. This is also the best time to visit Borneo’s beaches and islands, as the seas are calmer and ideal for diving and snorkelling, particularly around Sipadan, Mabul, and Lankayan. However, as this is the peak tourist season, it’s advisable to book accommodations and activities in advance to secure your spot.
