We thoroughly recommend Sundowner as a travel company. Our trip to Madagascar in July 2026 was the second holiday that we have booked with them and, just like our first trip to Borneo, it didn't disappoint! Lucy listened carefully to our ideal scenarios for a holiday and tailored it perfectly. Everything during the holiday ran like clockwork, with the drivers, guides and all staff at the hotels showing the utmost professionalism and consideration. Overall, it was a wonderful holiday with lots of wildlife and stunning scenery. A huge thanks to all the staff at Sundowner for their professionalism!

Vanessa and Julien, Madagascar

Every part was so well organised with a great mix of adventure and honeymoon moments throughout. Our drivers, guides and the various accommodation staff all went above and beyond for us from start to finish. Madagascar was such an interesting and beautiful country to visit and we saw, experienced and learnt so much!

Jacqueline Ryan, Madagascar

Everything was exceptionally well organised from all of the communication when organising the trip beforehand, to the quality of our guides, accommodation and overall holiday experience… We can also highly recommend Madagascar as a country with incredible wildlife, stunning scenery and very friendly people.

W Hartley, Madagascar

Madagascar is a place of exceptional beauty, with wildlife you'll see nowhere else in the world.

Clare Jones, Madagascar

After planning my wedding, the last thing I wanted to do was plan a honeymoon. But my husband and I also really wanted to have a grand adventure to Madagascar. We turned to Sundowner -- the first time my husband and I have ever booked with a tour operator -- and I'm so grateful that we did. Lucy helped us craft a perfect, stress-free trip full of the things we love (so many unique animals and amazing hiking.) Communication with Sundowner was great before we left home and we were in awe by how smoothly the whole trip went thanks to the careful planning and local drivers and guides that had been arranged for us. It was the trip of a lifetime and we are feeling even more confident and eager to explore more of the world and see more of its animals. I suspect we'll be booking through Sundowner again.

Weather in Madagascar

Madagascar’s climate is tropical, with distinct wet and dry seasons that vary by region. The coastal areas are warm and humid, the central highlands experience cooler temperatures, and the south tends to be arid. Whether you’re exploring lush rainforests, spotting lemurs in the wild, or relaxing on pristine beaches, knowing Madagascar’s weather patterns will help you plan the perfect adventure.

The Green Season (November–April): Lush and Lively
Madagascar’s green season brings warm temperatures (25–33°C / 77–91°F) and heavy rainfall, especially in the eastern rainforests. This is when the island’s landscapes are at their most vibrant, waterfalls flow in full force, and wildlife, including baby lemurs and chameleons, is abundant. However, some remote areas may be difficult to access due to muddy roads, and cyclones can occur between January and March, particularly along the east coast. Despite this, it’s a fantastic time for rainforest trekking and birdwatching.

The Dry Season (May–October): The Best Time to Explore
The dry season is ideal for travel, with cooler temperatures (18–27°C / 64–81°F) and little rainfall. Wildlife is easier to spot, making it a prime time for safaris in national parks like Andasibe-Mantadia and Isalo. July to September is also humpback whale season, with these majestic creatures migrating along the east coast. The dry season is perfect for beach lovers too, with clear skies and warm waters in destinations like Nosy Be and Île Sainte-Marie.
