big step away from the crowds this 12 night Tanzania safari & beach family adventure takes you into the wilds of the Selous Game Reserve to enjoy some thrilling game viewing in this vast wilderness area, before heading to a deserted beach on the remote Swahili Coast. Enjoy stunning landscapes, amazing wildlife, expert guiding and a genuine sense of adventure!
DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: London to Dar es Salaam
Fly overnight from the UK to Dar es Salaam (via Nairobi).
Day 2: Dar es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve
On arrival you will be met and assisted onto your light aircraft flight to the Selous Game Reserve where you will spend 4 nights on safari in 1 family tent at Rufiji River Camp, an authentic safari camp which is family owned by Foxes Safaris, very nature focused and commands a fantastic location overlooking the mighty Rufiji River.
Days 3 to 5: Selous Game Reserve
Three full days on safari in the Selous, a reserve packed with the Big 5 and particularly good for elephants, hippo, lion and if you’re lucky the African wild dog!
From Rufiji Camp you can enjoy expertly guided 4×4 game drives, walking safaris and boat safaris on the Rufiji River.
Day 6: Selous to Bagamoyo, Swahili Coast
Early this morning you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight back to Dar es Salaam.
On arrival you will be met and transferred north along the coast to Bagamoyo where your boat will be waiting to whizz you across to Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge, to end your Tanzania adventure with 6 nights in a family banda.
Also owned and run by the Fox family this remote beach lodge offers miles of deserted beach to play on, lovely rustic accommodation in only 12 beach bandas and friendly staff to ensure you have a great time.
Days 7 to 11: Swahili Coast
Five full days to relax and enjoy this beautiful part of the Tanzania coast – activities include sailing, snorkelling, kayaking, dhow cruises and historical excursions into Bagamoyo.
Day 12: Dar es Salaam to the UK
After a final day playing in the Indian Ocean you will be transferred south to Dar Airport to catch your flight back to the UK.

The trip itself was very well organised and ran incredibly smoothly, something which is not always achievable in East Africa! The partners they work with in Tanzania are of top quality: the guides, accommodation, connections, transport and itinerary were really well thought through and of good quality.

The camps we stayed in were extremely well run and comfortable, and the guides were excellent. They made sure we also got to see many of the rest of the wildlife of the region – everything from amazing numbers of Impala, Giraffe, Elephant, Zebra, lions, Cheetah and Leopard, and even Wild Dog that we had hoped to see but doubted we would be so lucky!

Just got back from the most amazing trip. Got chased by a group of hippos, had breakfast with baboon, impala and elephants and saw a large group of giraffe crossing crocodile infested water. The game drives where amazing as were the lodges. Unguja Beach lodge was just heaven. 12 steps from our own golden beach. Dinner every night was outstanding as were all the staff throughout our stay.

The organisation and services was perfect especially at Impala Selous Camp which we loved. In particular the friendliness of the staff and the competency of our guides. The mix of jeep, boat and walking was an excellent way to mix up safari and see more of the fauna and flora. And what about taking a breakfast in the bush, incredible!!!

We had a wonderful time away. Lake manze camp was outstanding – beautiful setting and such great staff. So was Pongwe – again staff, food, location fantastic!

Selous Riverside was the perfect balance I was looking for – basic and far from anywhere but there was hot showers and cold beer at the end of the day. We loved how we had the same safari guide and the same waiter for the duration of the stay, we really felt at home and still pine for David! We did an early morning walking safari, a riverboat safari and 2 full day safaris which were awesome. As a special treat we were taken far away to some hot springs for a swim…absolutely idyllic.

Selous Riverside was great with Clive and Raine being great hosts – I even organised a football match with the local school children and some lodge staff photos to follow! We had our own special meal with camp fire outside our lodge!

Our holiday was truly amazing. The itinerary was superb. Lake Manze was an experience that we’ll never forget. Having elephants eating their lunch feet from where we sat our veranda was an unbelievable sight. On our final night at Manze lions were prowling around the tents which was pretty frightening but awesome. Unguja was off the scale – Ralph and particular Elies were superb hosts and the location activities and accommodation were second to none. The trip of a lifetime and a fitting way to mark 25 years of marriage!

Thank you for arranging a fantastic holiday. We both really enjoyed ourselves and felt totally refreshed upon our return. The game viewing was spectacular, we were so lucky to see the pantheon of game on offer including hyena, wild dog and leopard, as well as a different pride of lion on each day we went out.

We had an amazing time. Everything was brilliant (even the baboon leaving a gift on the bed in the Serengeti!). I think Nick’s highlight was the lion cubs. I loved all the safari, but seeing the turtles hatch in Pangani was truly awesome. All the accommodation was exactly what we had hoped for. I hadn’t realised we would have a tent on our first night as well.

The whole trip has been a fantastic experience and everyone had a terrific time. The recommendations and arrangements were faultless. All the camps were excellent. The favourite was the camp in the Serengeti, it was the most basic but had the best atmosphere and was really among the wildlife, we had loins and leopards round the tents during the night!!!! The wildlife was more than we expected, we saw absolutely everything and more. Score out of ten for the whole trip……12 A++++++!!!! We both think it was magic!!!

Climbed Kili- toughest but most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. All lodges/ camps and hotels in Tanzania and Uganda were spot-on. Gorrila trekking in Brindi was out of this world. Thank you for recommending the chimpanzee trekking – a great experience.
