December to May

From December to February, conditions are generally at their most comfortable, with warm temperatures, lower rainfall and more manageable humidity. This is a particularly good time for a multi-stop holiday, with conditions suited to everything from walking and sightseeing to beaches and exploring by boat.

March and April remain largely dry but become progressively hotter. This can be a great time for beaches, snorkelling and island hopping in the Philippines, with generally good sea conditions across many of the western and central islands. The heat becomes more noticeable when exploring inland or spending longer periods outdoors.

May sits at the end of the dry season in many areas. It is usually one of the hottest months of the year, with higher humidity and a growing chance of tropical showers as the weather begins to change.

When to Visit Different Parts of the Philippines

A quick regional guide

Palawan and Coron: December to April generally brings lower rainfall and calmer seas. This matters around El Nido and Coron, where travelling by boat between limestone islands, lagoons and beaches is a major part of the experience. Calmer conditions are also better suited to snorkelling and diving, although local sea conditions can change from day to day.

Bohol & Panglao: December to April usually offers a good balance of sunshine and lower rainfall. March and April become hotter and more humid, but conditions remain good for exploring Bohol’s countryside before spending time on Panglao’s beaches. Calmer seas also favour snorkelling and diving around Panglao and nearby Balicasag.

Northern Luzon: December to March generally brings cooler, drier conditions for exploring Banaue, Batad, Sagada and the Cordillera. Walking is more comfortable without the heavier rains, particularly on steeper trails between villages and terraces. If The Banaue Rice Terraces are a priority, we’d also consider the planting and harvest cycle, as the landscape changes considerably throughout the year.

Boracay: December to April is the main dry season, with generally sunny weather and calmer conditions along White Beach. March and April become noticeably hotter, while changing winds during the wetter months can make sea conditions quite different.

Siargao and the eastern Philippines: These areas are more exposed to weather arriving from the Pacific and don’t follow the national dry season quite as neatly. Rainfall can be higher at times when western destinations are enjoying dry weather, so we’d consider the individual island and what you want to experience there rather than applying the same seasonal advice to the whole country.

The Central Visayas: Conditions vary between islands, but destinations such as Cebu and neighbouring islands can be visited across a broader part of the year. For diving and snorkelling, we’d consider local rainfall, visibility and sea conditions alongside the wider seasonal pattern rather than relying on a single country-wide weather forecast.
