"I’ve canoed the Lower Zambezi, wild camped in the Okavango Delta, and driven from the UK to Cape Town. I love getting under the skin of a place and its landscapes, wildlife, and culture."

Our trip to Zambia & Mozambique was beautifully planned from start to finish. The lodges were small and full of character, and everything ran like clockwork without ever feeling over-organised. We felt very looked after.

David Pockett, Zambia & Mozambique

Zambia was magical and Sundowner nailed the balance between comfort and wilderness. Each stop brought something new and the wildlife sightings were incredible. Already dreaming of our next trip.

Jack Viney, Zambia

Peaceful bush camps, stunning river views, and some incredible wildlife moments, including watching a leopard stalking through the long grass and a herd of elephants crossing the Luangwa at dusk.

Pamela Wells, Zambia

We’ve just returned from Zambia and it was absolutely fantastic. The lodges were full of character and the whole trip had a real sense of adventure while still feeling easy and relaxed. A brilliant itinerary from Sundowner.

Simon Bullard, Zambia

This was our first time in Zambia and Sundowner put together a beautiful, well-paced itinerary. We loved the remote bush camps and the mix of game drives and walking safaris. Would absolutely recommend.

Weather in Zambia

Zambia has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons, making it an excellent year-round destination for wildlife and adventure. Whether you’re on safari in South Luangwa, admiring Victoria Falls, or exploring the Zambezi River, understanding the country’s weather will help you plan the perfect trip.

The Green Season (November–April): Lush and Wild
Zambia’s green season is characterised by warm temperatures (25–35°C / 77–95°F) and regular rainfall, transforming the landscapes into a lush paradise. This is a fantastic time for birdwatching and seeing newborn animals, though some remote areas may be inaccessible due to flooded roads. Victoria Falls is at its most powerful from February to May, following the peak rains. While game viewing can be more challenging due to dense vegetation, lodges offer lower rates, and parks are beautifully quiet.

The Dry Season (May–October): Peak Safari Time
The dry season is the best time for safaris, as animals gather around waterholes and rivers, making them easier to spot. Temperatures range from 15–30°C (59–86°F), though June and July can be chilly in the mornings and evenings. This is also the best time for walking safaris in South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi. By October, the heat intensifies, particularly in the low-lying valleys, but wildlife sightings remain exceptional. For those visiting Victoria Falls, the water levels start dropping from August, offering better visibility of the rock formations beneath the falls.
