We’ve just come back from Mozambique and it was everything we hoped for and more. Lucy took time to really understand what we wanted, and the mix of coast and island stays was spot on. The whole trip felt effortless.

Louise Doyle, Mozambique

Our trip to Zambia & Mozambique was beautifully planned from start to finish. The lodges were small and full of character, and everything ran like clockwork without ever feeling over-organised. We felt very looked after.

David Pockett, Zambia & Mozambique

We had an amazing family holiday in South Africa and Mozambique thanks to the team at Sundowner. Each stop felt different and special, and the whole trip came together beautifully. We’ll be booking again.

The McGrath Family, South Africa & Mozambique

Sundowner helped us plan a quiet, off-the-beaten-track escape to Mozambique and it was just right. From wild beaches to dhow trips, everything was well thought out. We wouldn’t have known where to start without them.

Steven Griffin, Mozambique

This was our first trip with Sundowner and we were really impressed. Mozambique isn’t the easiest place to plan independently, but everything ran smoothly and we loved the laid-back rhythm of the whole trip.

Weather in Mozambique

Mozambique enjoys a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: the warm, rainy season and the cooler, dry season. Coastal areas are hot and humid, while inland regions experience more moderate temperatures. Whether you’re exploring the country’s stunning coastline, diving in crystal-clear waters, or going on a safari in Gorongosa National Park, understanding Mozambique’s weather will help you plan an unforgettable trip.

The Green Season (November–April): Warm and Rainy
The green season is characterized by high temperatures (25–35°C / 77–95°F) and frequent rainfall, particularly from December to March. This is when the landscapes are at their most lush, and marine life flourishes. However, heavy rains can lead to flooding in some areas, and cyclones occasionally affect the coastal regions, especially between January and March. Despite the humidity, this season is excellent for birdwatching and enjoying quieter beaches with fewer tourists.

The Dry Season (May–October): Perfect for Adventure
Mozambique’s dry season offers cooler temperatures (18–28°C / 64–82°F) and little to no rainfall, making it the best time for outdoor activities. This is the ideal season for diving and snorkelling, with excellent visibility in destinations like the Bazaruto and Quirimbas archipelagos. Wildlife viewing in Gorongosa and Niassa reserves is also at its best, as animals gather around water sources. From June to September, humpback whales migrate along the coast, creating spectacular whale-watching opportunities.
