Nesteled within Hwange National Park you will find Deteema Springs Camp, a captivating oasis set amidst the rugged wilderness of Zimbabwe’s premier wildlife sanctuary. Deteema offers an intimate safari experience, and it’s essence is drawn from the natural spring forming its core, serving as a lifeline for a plethora of wildlife. It nurtures a thriving ecosystem, drawing elephants, buffalo, and a myriad of bird species to it, and its tranquil beauty and ecological importance render it a beloved sanctuary for visitors. Embark on thrilling walking safaris as well as game drives to witness the incredible diversity of wildlife. In between safaris, unwind in the peaceful ambiance, listening to the sounds of nature echoing through the surrounding bush, or cool off with a refreshing dip in the plunge pool.  Spend your evenings gathered around the fire pit with a sundowner as the sun slowly sets on a glorious day of wildlife viewing. There is deliberately no Wi-Fi access throughout Deteema Springs Camp, however there is a dedicated zone you can head to if you want to catch up with friends and family at home. Efforts have been made to be as environmentally friendly as possible too, with a solar system that ensures the camp has hot water no matter the weather, and the tents have a low impact structural design. Children over the age of 6 are allowed to stay at the camp.

As well as opportunities to see wildlife on game drives and walking safaris, you can also go out on birding safaris – Hwange National Park boasts around 420 bird species! However, with the wildlife getting so close to you at the camp itself, you could simply return from your game drives, grab a chair, and soak up your surroundings. 

Deteema Springs has 7 Double Tents and 1 Family Tent – the comfortable tents are small so that they fit in with the “less is more” style, but also to suit the surroundings of the camp. Positioned on raised decks along the contour line of a hill, each tent offers guests privacy, stunning views, an en-suite bathroom, and a large private patio deck where you can sit out and watch the wildlife go about their lives directly in front of you. The Tents have a queen size bed that can be turned into two twin beds, and an additional single bed can be added into the Family Tent.  

The main area located in the centre of the camp is a large, tented deck area where you can go and grab a drink from the bar. You could relax in the lounges and watch the wildlife in the park, or gather around the large fire pit in the evening to warm yourself up and talk through your exciting day on safari! To cool off in the African heat enjoy a dip in the plunge pool, or grab a book from the library to get lost in as you lounge by the water. There is an excellent group of staff as well – from the team who welcome you and make you feel at home as soon as you arrive, to the guides who take you out on your safari and help you to spot as many animals as you can. Staying at Deteema Springs is pure bliss.
