DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: UK to Chiang Rai (via Bangkok)
Fly from the UK to Chiang Rai, with a connection in Bangkok.

Day 2: Chiang Rai
On arrival you will be met and transferred approx. 15 mins to spend 1 night at The Legend Chiang Rai Boutique Resort. This secluded and peaceful resort will be the perfect place to rest after your long journey. Welcome to Thailand! Want to include a stay in Bangkok? Talk to us about adding in a stop.

Day 3: Chiang Rai to Pakbeng
Early this morning you will be collected and driven approx. 2 hrs to the Thai/Laos border point at Huay Xai. Here you will go through immigration, before you take a shuttle bus to the pier to board the Shompoo Cruise. Cruise along the Mekong River to Le Grand Pakbeng, where you will spend your first night in Laos! Nestled in the jungle, the charming Le Grand is the perfect place to observe sleepy village life, whilst also enjoying stunning scenery! Refresh after your journey and enjoy a sundowner soaking up the views. Welcome to Laos!

Day 4: The Mekong to Luang Prabang
Have a leisurely breakfast before you get back on board the Shompoo Cruise and head off further down the Mekong. Stop at Tam Ting – two caves carved out of a limestone cliff. If you’re feeling adventurous, then head up the 200 stairs to the upper cave for sweeping views of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers! Your journey continues to the village of Ban Xang Hai to learn about the process of making traditional rice whiskey, before you get back on the boat and continue to cruise on to Luang Prabang. On arrival, disembark and be transferred to Maison Dalabua where you will spend the next 3 nights. A charming boutique property that is surrounded by three UNESCO classified lily ponds; you can enjoy the rest of your day relaxing by the pool!

Day 5: Luang Prabang
You will be collected today to enjoy a Half Day Guided Luang Prabang tour! Get to the heart of this charming city, as you start with a visit to the former Royal Palace, which is now the National Museum. Then, enjoy a short walk to Wat Mai, before you continue on to Wat Sensoukarahm and then Wat Xieng Thong. If this is too many temples, you can skip one or two and visit the Loas Visitor Centre instead – here you can learn all about the unexploded mines that were left behind by American forces after the Vietnam War. Talk to us about this alternative in your plan.

Day 6: Luang Prabang
This morning you will be collected for your Kuang Si Waterfalls Full Day Tour. Head out of the city and journey through Luang Prabang’s beautiful countryside as you make your way to the Waterfalls. The stunning falls are a series of cascading turquoise pools – enjoy a swim, or hike to the top of the highest drop. This is a highlight of any Laos trip, and a special picnic lunch will be prepared so you can enjoy local dishes with a spectacular view!

Day 7: Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng
You will have a bit of time this morning at leisure before you are then collected and taken to the train station to catch the train to Vang Vieng. On arrival in to Vang Vieng, you will be met and transferred approx. 10 mins to end your Laos adventure with 2 nights at the Riverside Boutique Resort. This award winning, luxury hotel, is full of charm and its beautiful design blends local traditions with French colonial architecture. Settle in this afternoon – your room will have a balcony which is the perfect place to sit and relax after your journey!

Day 8: Vang Vieng
You have a full day at leisure to explore this beautiful area. If you’re feeling adventurous, then trek up to the Nam Xay Viewpoint for stunning views across the landscape. To enjoy some of the stunning scenery on ground level, you can take a leisurely stroll along the riverside, visit the blue lagoon, or head into town to check out the market stalls and pick up a souvenir or two. Want to extend your time in Laos? Talk to us about some other areas you can visit.

Day 9: Vang Vieng to Phnom Penh
You will be transferred to Vientiane airport today where you will catch your flight to the Cambodian capital. On arrival into Phnom Penh, you will be met and transferred approx. 30 mins to Penh House where you will spend 3 nights. Tucked away from the bustling streets, Penh House offers a tranquillity that will make you forget you’re in a city! Settle in this afternoon, or head out and start exploring under your own steam. Welcome to Cambodia!

Day 10: Phnom Penh
This morning you will be collected for a Private City Tour! Start at the Royal Palace which dates back to 1866 and houses the Silver Pagoda (named due to the 5000 silver tiles that cover its floors). Then you will visit the National Museum and Wat Phnom, before you enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. Later you’ll gain insight into Cambodia’s recent history with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum before you then drive out of the city to arrive at the Choeung Ek Killing Fields. These are tough visits, but also important and a big part of Cambodian history. After, you’ll head back to the hotel to rest.

Day 11: Phnom Penh
You will have a full day at leisure in this vibrant city. You could stay by the pool at your hotel, or take a stroll along the bustling Sisowath Quay for something to eat. If you enjoyed the cruises earlier in your trip, you could jump on a boat again, and head out on a sunset cruise along the river. Want to pick up the pace? Contact us on 01273 923 100 to spend less time in one of the stops.

Day 12: Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
You will be collected this morning and transferred approx. 5 hrs to Siem Reap through the countryside and small villages. On arrival in Siem Reap, you will be taken to Saem Siemreap Hotel where you will spend the next 3 nights. Featuring classic Khmer architecture, this elegant hotel is in a great location to be able to head out and explore Siem Reap.

Day 13: Siem Reap
After breakfast, you will be collected for your Private Angkor Wat Temples Tour as you are taken to visit various Temples in this world-famous complex – including Bayon Temple, Ta Prohm and of course, Angkor Wat! Enjoy some time walking around the Temples – look out for the cheeky monkeys that hang around the area!

Day 14: Siem Reap
You will have the whole day to explore Siem Reap at your leisure. Hire a bicycle and cycle around the city, wander down the pretty side streets, head to the French Quarter, or stroll through the many markets after sunset to see the atmosphere of the town come to life, and pick up a souvenir before you head home.

The latest word on the street about Sundowner’s South East Asia holidays:

Our time in the Philippines was amazing. The itinerary was perfect and it was such a reassurance to know you would take care of everything. The tour guides were so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable with that real Philippine spirit of hospitality. My children enjoyed everything and we had so much fun snorkeling and kayaking in beautiful clear waters! Thank you for showing us part of this beautiful country.

Martin Emmett Philippines

We just wanted to say a very big thank you for the amazing Philippines holiday we have just returned from. The itinerary was fantastic packing in all the highlights while leaving ample beach time! Plus it all ran smoothly, with wonderful guides and we enjoyed every activity we did. This really has been a memorable trip.

Sam Williams Philippines

Just to let you know we had an amazing time in the Philippines! It’s difficult to choose highlights as everything was fantastic. The Philippines are beautiful, rich in history with amazing food and wonderful people. Eric (our guide) was brilliant and went above and beyond. Thank you!
